My Story:

‘Between the Queens’

She carries the wind beneath her weathered wings,
She turns into sweet honey the sours life brings.
She flies & flies so others can soar high.

She bares the wounds of the battles she’s fought,
She’s the unsung hero the famous fables simply forgot.
She provides & provides so others can live with pride.

Tough as mettle, delicate as a petal
United in spirit if not in life, by any means
It’s the unsaid words said only between the Queens.

My painting ‘Between the Queens’ is a homage to the feminine spirit. It's a unique confluence of the nuances of life shared between the two queens. 

Again, I started with no plan in my mind just the two queens & I just let my feminine energy take me where it wanted to go. I used paints, inks, some random things for mark making, a lot of texture on the bodies of the lioness & the bee in this painting. A very unique element that I used here was fabric... yes the flowers in the painting are fabric collages. I had this scrap fabric that was so beautiful & the colours went so well with my colour palette so I just incorporated it in my story. Well, I truly believe everything has it's purpose & this fabric fulfilled it's purpose by decorating my canvas. 
This was a very fulfilling project for me as somewhere it gave a chance to express my deepest voice both as an artist & as a woman.
